Les Miserables on Broadway again

“Les Misérables” is a rare musical program that has proven to be timeless. The play has been translated into 20 languages and been performed in 42 countries worldwide. It has been seen by over 65 million people and is the longest running musical in the world. It continues to fascinate audiences with its classic message of passion and the toughness of the human spirit.

Set in France in the 1800’s, it tells the story of Jean Valjean, a man imprisoned for 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread. With heart-rending dialogue and song, it portrays his struggle to adopt a new identity while evading the ever-pursuing police.

This exciting brand-new Broadway revival has been nominated for three 2014 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. British producer, Cameron Mackintosh, revealed Wednesday that the existing Broadway revival of “Les Misérables" will run for an additional nine months and is scheduled to close on Sept. 4, 2016. Cameron Mackintosh stated the brand-new production of the Tony Award-winning musical masterpiece will return to Broadway's Imperial Theatre in 2016. This newly re-imagined Les Misérables continues to surpass box-office expectations and also continues to receive rave reviews across North America, grossing greater than $145 million. According to Cameron Mackintosh, he is “pleased that Broadway audiences have so enthusiastically welcomed LES MISÉRABLES in its Broadway return.
